Norman and Nancy’s fledgling, Noodle. They seem to Norman and Nancy’s fledgling, Noodle. They seem to be down to one fledgling only, so they’re keeping a close eye on him/her. After watching them trying and failing for years to successfully raise kids, I look anxiously for Noodle first thing every day. This photo was taken on our deck, where Norman and Nancy often bring their pride a joy to visit. ❤️ Stay safe, Noods!! #citycrowstories #normanandnancycrows #crowfledgling

The hawks had their nest close by, so I’m not sure if is one of the adult hawks, or one of the young ones getting the lay of the land. Anyway, the adult crows set aside their usual territorial squabbling to move the hawk on. Fred usually chases Neil Young out of his area, but it was all wings on deck in common purpose this morning. #citycrowstories #coopershawk #crowfledgling
It’s always good to have backup. My poor compute It’s always good to have backup.

My poor computer is groaning under the weight of decades of crow and raven photographs, so I’m forcing myself to go through one or two old folders a day to see if there any files I can get rid of. This is like looking through old family photos, in that it’s a trip down memory lane and ends up taking forever (in a fun way.)
I photographed this raven pair few years ago on our local mountain. I’ve always liked this one — maybe I’ll make a print of it. 🤔

Crows, as I am constantly remarking, are truly amazing. 🤩 The first photo was taken on July 10 and the second on July 11. #citycrowstories #billthecrow #aviankeratindisorder
Bill last week, with his beak grown long again. Bi Bill last week, with his beak grown long again. Bill has AKD (avian keratin disorder) which causes beak overgrowth. This can become a problem for the affected bird if the beak length begins to impede their ability to forage and groom themselves. It was very long this spring, but Bill found a way to trim it himself. Unfortunately, it grows long again after a few weeks. #citycrowstories #billthecrow #aviankeratindisorder
