Some of the other male crows I found yesterday — a Some of the other male crows I found yesterday — and photographed while I was telling them it was International Crow and Raven Appreciation Day. As you can see, they were largely unmoved by the honour, concentrating on their current dad roles of guarding the nests and keeping their mates fed. In order, we had Marvin, Fred and Earl. Fred also makes time to continue his tail-pulling game with the dog. He’s an excellent multitasker. 😊 #citycrowstories #marvinandmaviscrows #fearlessfredcrow #earlandechocrows #crowphotography
Bill, looking extra impressive today. I tried to c Bill, looking extra impressive today. I tried to congratulate all of my local crows on it being International Crow and Raven Appreciation Day, but mostly I found only the males as the females are sitting in secrecy on the nest right now. The dads seemed unfazed by their special day, concentrating instead on looking fierce and being good nest guards and snack providers. Bill here was in full regalia because another crow dad (Dennis) was nearby and he needed to prove himself the floofiest of all. #citycrowstories #nestingseason #billthecrow

Picture one: looking (to borrow one of my Mum’s favourite phrases) as if butter wouldn’t melt in this mouth (or beak) while sitting pretty with blossoms.
Picture two: closing in for a tweak of Luke’s tail. (Luke is our daughter’s dog, who stays with us on weekdays.)
The theme of the 2027 City Crow Calendar, which I’m currently working on, is how to tell individual crows apart, with their specific personality traits offering major clues. Fred will definitely be featured!
